'Falling Slowly'

25 Feb 2008
Notice Glen Hansard calling in his lyrics by phone right at the end of the video for 'The Ballad of Ronnie Drew' ? Last night Hansard and Marketa Irglova won 'Best Original Song' at the Oscars for 'Falling Slowly' from 'Once'.

Hansard, co-star of the shoe-string budget feature about the relationship of an Irish busker with a Czech immigrant (played by Irglova), used to be better known as guitarist with The Frames. And ex-Frames bass player John Carney, who wrote and directed the film, was behind the camera on the video for 'The Ballad of Ronnie Drew'. (Hansard was in Eastern Europe at the time of the recording of the tribute song - he made his contribution via his mobile phone.)
