To coincide with the meeting of the UN Summit, the New York Times has published a lengthy (actually, it's gigantic) profile of Bono which explores his influence as a rock'n'roll star in the corridors of political power.

'He's a kind of one-man state who fills his treasury with the global currency of fame.' writes James Traub, who met Bono over several months of political lobbying in preparing the piece. 'He is also, of course, an emanation of the celebrity culture.
