the best rock show in history (#heart)
I was a sweet sixteen year old chap with a ticket for u2´s gig in Oslo that year. wandering aimlessly through the halls of my high school I was stopped by the assistant head master. he asked me to go to Sweden for four weeks on a youth camp that summer, meeting other bewildered kids from throughout the world. what a play - u2 gig or youth camp for four weeks? what can a kid do but ask his mother for advice. and she gave it willingly, and she gave it feely and she gave it with all her love. long story short, Sweden it was. on u2´s gig night in Stockholm, all us kids went on a bus ride to Stockholm, and my soul was yearning to get off the buss, before the stage and sing my heart out alongside Bono and 60 000 of his closest friends. did not happen. by chance I recorded the Sidney gig on VHS, broadcast by NRK (Norsk Rikskringkasting), Norwegians feeble attempt to run BBC in our small, weird, but oh so loving country. One can say a lot about VHS, but I must have seen that show a million times, thus making the summer of -93 the best ever in life, with -89 as the runner up (NRK´s broadcast of Sommerlyd with an cross-cut between Mike Peter´s and bassist interviewed by Vera Kvaal and live-gig clips from a small venue in Oslo, all available at NRK´s web player - just search for "the Alarm" at www.nrk.no) come to think of it, Bono, the first cut is the deepest, so the Alarm gets the prize, but a good number two isn´t too bad - isn´t that what you´ve been lookin´for all along, anyway? what all this did to me? i haven´t a clue - but there are some hints on spotify, artist name "njaol" :) Keep On Rocking In the Free World! (and many thanks!) -njaol also with a small contribution on www.bipolardisorder.no and soon at exitbipolar.org

Unforgettable show
Brilliant concert - my first ever U2 concert when I was a mere 16 years old. I love that this show is also immortalised on video and now DVD. A great selection of songs including old favourites such as Streets, Pride, New Years Day and With or Without You and songs from Achtung Baby and Zooropa. I was so jealous of the girl Bono selected to dance with him on stage during Love is Blindness. Bono's renditions of Unchained Melody and Can't Help Falling in Love were also pretty special. Thank goodness too that Adam Clayton was back on stage at this show.
